Gratis arbetsplats Stockholm

My favorite free/“almost free” workplaces in Stockholm (updated 2025)

There has been a continuing change in how we work—more and more people can work almost anywhere, as long as there is a power outlet and a stable internet connection. Cafés, hotel lobbies, libraries, and coworking hubs have become natural “satellite workplaces” for those who want to break the office routine for a day.

To function, the following are often required:

  • free or inexpensive WiFi
  • power outlets at at least some tables
  • relative quiet (not too noisy)
  • acceptance from the venue (that you can sit with your laptop for a while)

Here are my (and others') tips for good places to work from in Stockholm in 2025.

Current cafés and coffee shops that work for laptop work

The following cafés are often listed in “laptop-friendly” guides in 2025.

  • Café Pascal (several locations: Norrtullsgatan 4 in Vasastan, Sturegatan 8 in Östermalm, and Gävlegatan 22 in Hagastaden) — cozy, good lighting, plenty of power outlets, and reasonably quiet.
  • Bröd & Salt (located on every other street corner throughout Stockholm) advertises on its website that it has a coworking component, with workrooms, armchairs, fast WiFi, etc.
  • Espresso House (many locations around the city) — large chain, often with power outlets along the walls and free WiFi.
  • Wayne’s Coffee — also a chain with a wide network and WiFi available for guests.
  • Il Caffè (Södermalm) — mentioned in lists as a café with good working conditions in the southern region.

One tip is to use apps or websites that list “WiFi-friendly cafés” to find places near you in real time.

Hotel lobbies, coworking areas & flexible workspaces

In addition to regular cafés, there are other options where you can work, sometimes for free or at low cost:

  • Hotel Scandic / Nordic Choice / similar chain lobbies — many hotels now offer “flexible coworking spaces” in their lobbies or lounges, with free WiFi, coffee/tea, and sometimes scheduled drop-in office spaces.
  • Scandic Hotels flexible coworking spaces — according to their own description, you can book drop-in rooms or use lobby spaces for work.
  • ProfilHotels Central Stockholm — the hotel advertises that it has WiFi throughout the building.
  • Libraries and public buildings — all public libraries in Stockholm offer free internet access.
  • Free WiFi zones in Stockholm — the city lists public WiFi locations: cafés, hotels, and stations.

Tips for finding and using workspaces wisely

  1. Keep track of opening hours — some cafés close earlier than offices, and some hotel lobbies may have restrictions.
  2. Arrive early — popular places fill up quickly with other laptop workers.
  3. Be discreet — buy something (coffee, food) to show that you are using the restaurant, and you will usually be more accepted.
  4. Pack extra cables & adapters – some outlets may be rare.
  5. Have a backup plan – know where the nearest library or hotel is that you can “move” to if it gets full or the network fails.
  6. Check out coworking spaces with day passes – sometimes you can rent a space for, say, one day at a coworking center, which is cheaper than renting an office long-term.
