Surroundings and area

Commuting

If you arrive via the U8 at Schönleinstraße, you emerge onto the gritty, bustling Kottbusser Damm—a cacophony of flower markets, sizzling kebab grills, and the rhythmic rattle of the subway beneath your feet. But as you turn away from the main road and cross the Landwehr Canal, the city noise begins to soften. You’ll walk past the Planufer, where the scent of the water mixes with the aroma of fresh roasting coffee from the local espresso bars. Turn onto Boppstraße itself, and you are greeted by a cathedral-like canopy of old linden trees. The sidewalk is lined with high-ceilinged Altbau buildings, their ornate stucco facades peeling just enough to feel authentic. You’ll hear the "clack-clack" of bicycles on the pavement and the low hum of neighbors chatting at sidewalk tables. By the time you reach number 17, you’ve traded the urban rush for the intimate, leafy embrace of the Graefekiez.
