About the office

Chausseestraße 117 is an architecturally striking and historically significant complex of buildings in Berlin-Mitte. The listed former residential and commercial building of the AG für Automobilunternehmungen was constructed between 1913 and 1914, presumably based on a design by Arnold Kuthe. Particularly striking is the neoclassical street façade, whose clear arrangement of pilasters and sculptural ornamentation lend the building a stately, almost monumental appearance. Two enclosed courtyard complexes were built on the elongated lot. According to the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, the second courtyard housed Berlin’s first multi-story parking garage, which gives the complex special significance in the history of the city and transportation. The attic figures on the facade, including one holding a car, also allude to the site’s original use and history. Today, the facility is located in the backyard of 117 Chausseestraße and spans six floors.
